Some purchases and links take you to services operated by other companies, including SamCart and online retailers. Their privacy practices apply once you leave our website.

1. Personal information we collect

Depending on how you interact with us, we may collect:

  • Contact and account information, such as your name, email address, mailing address, login details, and communication preferences.
  • Membership and course information, such as login activity, course progress, and content you post in member or community areas where those features are available.
  • Order and transaction information, such as the items purchased, order date, delivery details, transaction status, and customer-support history.
  • Information you choose to provide, including form responses, messages, reviews, survey answers, contest entries, and other submissions.
  • Device and usage information, such as IP address, approximate location, browser and device type, referring page, pages viewed, clicks, searches, video interactions, and timestamps.
  • Cookie and advertising identifiers, when permitted by your settings and applicable law.

Checkout and payment information is collected through SamCart, Wix, and their payment providers. We do not store your complete payment-card number.

2. How we use personal information

We use personal information to:

  • provide books, downloads, accounts, customer support, and requested services;
  • process and maintain order, delivery, refund, tax, accounting, and business records;
  • send service messages and, with any consent required by law, newsletters and promotions;
  • personalize and improve our website, products, content, videos, and customer experience;
  • measure website and advertising performance and show relevant advertising where permitted;
  • protect our website, customers, intellectual property, and business from fraud, misuse, and security threats; and
  • comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.

3. Cookies, analytics, and advertising

Our website uses three general categories of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Essential technologies that keep the website working and remember privacy choices.
  • Analytics technologies that help us understand visits and improve the website.
  • Advertising technologies that help us measure campaigns, limit repeated ads, build audiences, and show more relevant advertising.

We use Google Analytics and Google Ads. Google may collect or receive information about your use of our website through cookies and similar identifiers and process that information for measurement and advertising, depending on your consent choices. We also use the Meta Pixel for advertising measurement and audience features when advertising consent is available. First-party and third-party identifiers may be used together for these purposes.

You can change optional-cookie choices at any time using the Privacy choices link in the website footer. We also honor Global Privacy Control signals for advertising opt-out where our consent tool supports them. You may additionally adjust browser controls, Google's My Ad Center, and Meta's Ad Preferences. To learn how Google uses information from sites and apps that use its services, visit How Google uses information from sites or apps that use our services. Blocking cookies may affect some website features.

4. Video and email services

We use Wistia to display videos. Wistia may record media interactions such as whether you play, pause, rewind, or finish a video and provide aggregated or viewer-level engagement information to us, depending on the media and your privacy choices.

We use AWeber and Kajabi to manage forms and email communications. If you subscribe, these services process your contact details and engagement information on our behalf. You can unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time using the link in the email. We may still send necessary account, order, or service messages.

5. How we disclose personal information

We may disclose personal information:

  • To service providers that help us host and operate the website, manage email, deliver digital products, process transactions, provide customer support, display videos, analyze use, measure advertising, prevent fraud, and maintain our systems. These include Kajabi, Wix, SamCart, payment providers, AWeber, Google, Meta, and Wistia.
  • For legal and safety reasons when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful requests, protect rights or safety, investigate fraud, or enforce our terms.
  • For a business transaction such as a financing, reorganization, sale, merger, or transfer of all or part of our business, subject to appropriate safeguards.
  • With your direction or consent.

We do not sell personal information for money. Under some U.S. state privacy laws, disclosures involving advertising cookies or identifiers may be considered a "sale," "sharing," or targeted advertising even when no money is exchanged. You can opt out through Privacy choices and supported Global Privacy Control signals.

6. Purchases, retailer links, and affiliate disclosure

Purchases may be completed on our Digital Book Cafe store, which is hosted by Wix; through SamCart; or through external retailers such as Amazon and TikTok Shop. Wix, SamCart, and payment providers process checkout information under their own privacy policies. External retailers collect and process information under their own privacy policies. We may receive limited transaction, attribution, or commission information from them.

Amazon affiliate disclosure: As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases.

Some links on our website are affiliate links. If you make a qualifying purchase through one of these links, we may earn a commission at no additional cost to you.

7. Legal bases for processing

Where laws such as the GDPR or UK GDPR apply, we process personal information as needed to perform a contract or take steps you request; based on our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving our business; with your consent; or to comply with legal obligations. You may withdraw consent at any time, without affecting processing that occurred before withdrawal.

8. International processing

We are based in the United States, and our service providers may process information in the United States, Canada, and other countries. Privacy laws in those countries may differ from the laws where you live. Where required by applicable law, international transfers are supported by recognized legal mechanisms. Depending on the provider and transfer, these mechanisms include the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses incorporated into provider terms and, where a provider is certified, the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. Contact us for information about safeguards relevant to a particular transfer.

9. Data retention and security

We retain personal information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including to provide services, maintain required business and tax records, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, and meet legal obligations. Retention periods vary by the type of information and the service involved.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards appropriate to the nature of the information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. Your privacy rights and choices

Depending on where you live and subject to applicable law, you may have rights to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal information; receive information about how it has been used or disclosed; obtain a portable copy; withdraw consent; object to or restrict certain processing; and opt out of sale, sharing, or targeted advertising. You may also have the right to appeal our response or complain to a privacy regulator.

To make a request, email us or use the contact form listed below. We may need to verify your identity before completing the request. Authorized agents may submit requests where permitted by law. We will not discriminate against you for exercising an applicable privacy right. We respond within the period required by applicable law. Members may also request deletion of their account by contacting us.

11. Children

Our website is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13 without appropriate parental consent. If you believe a child has provided personal information to us inappropriately, please contact us so we can review and delete it where required.

12. Third-party websites and public content

Our website links to third-party websites and services that we do not control. This Policy does not govern their practices. Please review their privacy notices before providing information. Information you choose to post in a public review, comment, or community area may be visible to others.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy as our services or legal obligations change. We will post the revised version here and update the date above. If a change is material, we will provide any additional notice required by law.
